Yesterday I spied on Billy through a window and caught him rolling in the grass and having a ball! He is slowly coming around and relaxing with me and the house. Today he spent a full 8 hours out of his crate and in the living room. I leave the door open on the crate but he usually just goes back into the crate. So, it was great to see him relaxed on his bed with his stuffed bunny! He is afraid of the ceiling fan and the crackling of a twig under his feet. He literally stops to smell the roses in the yard and ate 2 full meals today - that's a first for the week. AND, after Saturday night after he kept me up for 4 hours and shredded his blankets, last night was very quiet. No blankets were shredded either. I think he just need a stuffed bunny to keep him company.

Billy wagged his tail at Mogley!
Marsha brought Billy over today. He's doing way better than I expected!
He didn't remember me but was calm enough to sit in my lap. (Yep, that means he's GOTTA have a little pit bull in him!)
I have two foster greyhounds right now. Greys have a very specific gentle sort of energy about them. I was afraid that Billy wouldn't care much for other dogs, as from what we had seen he was only comfortable with his brother, Jesse. (We're still hoping someone around here will adopt Jesse and bring him out here so they can play together.)
Billy got happy when he saw my two kids, and did a lot of butt-sniffing. After about twenty minutes he came back to Mogley and sniffed and started to wag his tail.
This is much more than I expected from him. It was a glorious thing to behold.

Billy on Arrival?
Marsha is at the airport now, picking up Billy. It's been sort of a heart jerker fr some of the folks down at ARNO. Billy's been with them for nine months and becoming socialized. I'm sure it's like ripping off our arm to let him go.
Thanks so much to everyone down there that's been working so hard with this scared, lovely pup. We're going to give him such a good home. I have greyhounds that he can play with every week. Greys are sort of 'gentle giants' and will hopefully calm Billy while making him feel welcome.
He just made a move to play with on of the staff there. After nine months.
Welcoome Billy!

Clover's Intake

Here are a couple of photo's from Clover's intake. Lise, volunteer at ARNO, has been attempting for several months now to trap Clover, his two siblings and mother. On this day, Lise successfully trapped Clover and brought him to ARNO for intake. This means Clover will be examined, neutered, given his vaccinations, antiobotics and checked for heartworm. Clover is feral, and it is quite difficult to trap a feral animal and go through the intake process. Clover was pretty nervous and resisted everything Robin attempted to do with him. He whipped his head around as well as his body, like a bucking bronco. He snapped at Robin and Lise, over and over, not knowing what they were trying to do for him. Although he snapped at them a lot, he never bit them. He did bite his own tongue! Robin and Lise were amazingly patient with him, staying clam, talking to him in soothing voices and petting him for reassurement. It took an entire hour to get Clover out of his crate, take his temperature, administer his vaccines and apply the nasal anitbiotics. He will now go through socialization training with other dogs and people to prepare him for adoption. Since these photo's were taken on May 12, Lise has successfully trapped his two siblings and is still trying to trap the mother dog. Go Lise! Kittens and Cats and Cost
A couple of people have asked about adopting cats from ARNO. I found out that the cost is $100. That includes shots, spay or nueter, and socialization. Most of them coming in now are feral so they are used to taking care of themselves. I thought that would mean that they would be unsociable, but in most cases the cats I met at the shelter just wanted to jump in your arms and purr.
On the adoption from ARNO front......Marsha? Marsha? Bueller? Bueller? Time to share your secret!
I think I am finally coming out of culture shock, so the stories can begin.
